DREIECK DESIGN · MADE IN GERMANY SINCE 1984

Designer CD storage for a collection that keeps growing

A physical music collection is something you return to: the album covers, the booklet and the choice of what to play next. Good CD storage makes that routine easy. It gives each case a place, keeps labels readable and leaves room for the albums still to come.

DREIECK DESIGN makes modern glass CD racks, wall storage and enclosed designs in Germany. Compare a compact tower with a larger rotating rack or a glass-door cabinet. The right choice depends on your cases, your available space and how you prefer to browse the collection.

THE COLLECTION · CHOOSING BY FUNCTION

Six ways to organize a physical collection

Capacities and functions refer to specific versions. Check the format, selected dimensions and usable space on the product page; photographed colors and equipment are configuration examples.

A COMPACT VERTICAL COLLECTION

CD TOWER

CD TOWER places storage within a small footprint. Single and double arrangements have different capacities, including a selected mixed CD/DVD configuration. Compare the usable format and height.

SIZE & EVERYDAY USE

Count the cases, then leave room for growth

Begin with the collection you own now. Count standard CD jewel cases separately from digipaks, double cases and box sets. Larger editions can occupy several standard spaces or require a taller compartment. A capacity stated for ordinary cases is a useful comparison, not a guarantee for every type of packaging.

Plan for the collection you expect to keep. If you have 500 standard CDs and expect to add another 100, a nominal capacity of at least 600 is a starting point. Larger editions still need to be accounted for, and a small reserve makes the collection easier to rearrange.

The CD 224–616 family offers several capacities up to the specified CD 616 configuration. A smaller tower or wall unit may work better if your collection is divided between rooms. Choose a usable arrangement rather than filling every space on the first day.

Planning tip

Measure a small selection of your widest and tallest cases. Send those measurements if you want to check how unusual editions fit the chosen configuration.

FUNCTION & PLANNING

CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays and larger editions

Different case formats need different shelf heights. PILE illustrates the distinction: its CD and DVD configurations arrange the same basic idea around different cases. P 276 is specified for up to 276 CDs, while P 184 is a DVD configuration for up to 184 cases.

The rotating CD + DVC family also distinguishes the selected format and capacity. CD versions include 280, 420 and 560 capacities; DVC versions include 210 and 350 configurations. Check the actual case dimensions, especially for editions that differ from a standard box.

A mixed collection needs a mixed-format plan. Selected CD TOWER and wall arrangements include CD/DVD options. The stated capacity of a mixed version describes the specified combination; it is not an invitation to add the largest CD and DVD figures together.

Planning tip

Separate standard cases from oversized editions before deciding on capacity. For mixed storage, note how many cases of each format the furniture needs to accept.

MATERIALS & DETAIL

Wheels, a rotating tower or a rotating cover?

These functions change how you reach the music. Wheels allow a specified unit to be repositioned under its handling instructions. A rotating tower brings different sides of the collection toward you. A rotating cover opens access to the collection inside it.

In the CD 224–616 family, CD 224, 336 and 448 are rolling models, while CD 392, 504 and 616 rotate through 360 degrees. The CD + DVC family uses a rotating arrangement. CUBE instead has a rotating glass cover; the distinction matters when planning the space around it.

Leave room for the selected movement and access to the cases. Follow the model’s instructions when moving furniture, especially with a filled collection. A doorway, uneven floor or threshold can change the route even when the footprint appears small.

Planning tip

Draw the area used when the furniture turns or opens, not only its footprint while closed. Leave space for your hand and the case you are taking out.

YOUR ROOM & YOUR ROUTINE

Open racks or CD storage with glass doors

Open CD racks make the collection readily accessible and keep the case spines visible. They work well when choosing and returning an album is part of your everyday routine. Plan a regular dusting routine and keep loose objects away from the storage levels.

Glass-door designs create a more enclosed arrangement. PILE uses an upright glass door, while CUBE uses a moving glass cover. Closed storage can reduce direct exposure to dust, but it should not be described as a sealed or dustproof archive.

Storage furniture does not replace suitable room conditions. Consider sunlight, moisture and the care requirements of the cases and media themselves. Ordinary clear glass is not a promise of UV protection. Choose placement as carefully as the door arrangement.

Planning tip

Decide how often you want to reach for an album. Compare the access needed each time with the visual effect you want when the storage is closed.

OPTIONS TO COMPARE

Wall storage and a compact floor footprint

Wall-mounted CD shelves can use a short section of wall without placing another piece on the floor. The available CD wall configurations cover different collection sizes, and BOOKLET adds another approach for smaller books and selected media formats.

Mounting needs to take account of the filled furniture and the actual wall construction. Plan the reachable height and space around switches, doors and radiators. A tall wall arrangement may provide capacity without making every shelf equally convenient to reach.

A compact CD TOWER offers a freestanding alternative. Compare its footprint, overall height and case arrangement with the space you have. Where a model requires securing, including PILE, follow the specified installation requirements.

Planning tip

Count the shelves you can comfortably reach from the intended position. Put frequently played albums in the most accessible part of the arrangement.

FROM THE FIRST IDEA

An arrangement you can keep using

Alphabetical order is a familiar starting point, but the best arrangement is one you can maintain. You might separate jazz and classical music, then sort by artist or composer. Collections shared by several people may benefit from a simple method everyone follows.

Leave small gaps between sections rather than compressing the collection into one continuous block. That makes it easier to add albums without reorganizing every shelf. Larger box sets can be grouped separately if they need a different compartment size.

Modern glass CD storage can become part of the living room rather than a hidden utility piece. Compare float glass, Optiwhite and the offered color details with nearby furniture. If the available arrangements do not suit your cases or room, send us a custom storage brief.

Planning tip

Try your sorting method on one part of the collection first. If it is easy to find and return an album, use the same method throughout.

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

Your planning checklist

  1. Current collection: count standard CD cases, digipaks, double cases and box sets separately.
  2. Other media: note DVD, Blu-ray and paperback dimensions where they need to share the unit.
  3. Growth: include a practical reserve and space for rearranging sections.
  4. Access: open shelves, a glass door, a rotating cover, a rotating tower or wheels.
  5. Placement: usable wall or floor space, reachable height, opening and turning clearance.
  6. Installation: check the wall construction and the securing requirements of the selected model.

Planning in inches? Product dimensions are shown in centimeters. One inch is 2.54 cm. Send us your original measurements and units when discussing a custom piece so we can agree the dimensions precisely.

Care, surfaces and everyday use

Dust or loose grit should be removed before wiping a glass surface. Use clean, soft cloths and products suited to the selected finish. Avoid abrasive pads, rough object bases and standing moisture around connections. Suitable pads help protect shelves from the feet of ornaments or equipment.

Clear glass, satin finishes, lacquer, wood and metal can require different care. Follow the instructions for your particular piece. Our glass cleaning guide provides further advice, and the Optiwhite guide explains how low-iron glass differs in appearance from ordinary float glass.

Plan the finished construction around its actual use. Glass thickness alone is not a load rating for a shelf or an assembled piece. Tell us about heavy collections, unusually large equipment or a particular placement before ordering so the chosen configuration can be checked.

YOUR SPACE · YOUR MATERIALS · YOUR IDEAS

Custom furniture, including your own design

DREIECK DESIGN has developed and manufactured furniture in Germany since 1984. You can ask us to adapt a collection piece or discuss an original furniture design. Custom work can combine glass, solid wood and matching metal parts, with dimensions, colors and finishes agreed for the project.

For custom CD storage, tell us the number and dimensions of your cases, including unusual editions. We can discuss an adapted collection design or an original storage arrangement. Capacity, access, shelf spacing and any mounting or movement requirements are considered together.

A sketch, photos and a description of how the furniture will be used are enough to start a conversation. We work through the construction and details with you before preparing an offer for the agreed specification. Explore custom-made furniture or contact our team with your ideas.

If you are visiting Germany, our showroom in Hennef near Cologne and Bonn is a place to compare selected furniture and materials and discuss your plans. Visits are by prior appointment only, arranged by email or phone. Tell us which models you would like to see so we can confirm availability.
